Yes! Improvisation is key in freeing yourself ”letting go” as you hear over and over. ”Go on, give it a try”. Just do it! THEN you can break down your character and your script with less inhibition and intellectualism (that’s a whole different story). It doesn’t mean you are not smart, just means you can get in touch.
You don’t have to picture your long lost puppy to cry. You don’t have to be a Comedian to be funny. Just follow your instincts. Oh, but you DO have instincts and IMPROVISATION will prove that to you — like it our not.
I am an actor who needs/likes/wants/can’t-do-without/blah blah blah — a SCRIPT. Terrified I’ll make a mistake and not be able to pick myself up. What’s good about being a terrified actor?!
IMPROVISING YOUR SCENE can really free up your thought process — and if you do get terrified, you’ve got the BS you learned within yourself to pick it up! Get it?
Go to: www.actorscreative.com and you will find a course to get you started. If you want to do just Improv – go for it! But my suggestion is if you want to do SCENE work – learn/feel/accept the process of improvising. You know what? You might even have fun!
